Early History
The Pygmy people were the first to live on the land of Congo. Later, Portugese explorers were able to reach the country because of the Congo River. This section of Congo, along the Congo River Delta, was an area where there was lots of trading. The power and resources from trading along the Nile River were almost deceaced once the Europeans started to colonize the land
Colonial History
When Europe targeted Congo, France was the first to invade and colonize Congo. French coltrol was very brutal, and cost lives of thousands of people in countries around West Central Africa. Germany also took part in colonizing Congo, but not as much as France. German control lasted less than 5 years and affected almost no parts of the country. As a result of French colonization, French is the official language of Congo.

Congo was declared an independent country in 1960

On December 1, 2012, a plane crashed in Brazzaville, Congo's capital. This killed at least 3 people.
